I forgot to leave my answering machine on while I was on vacation from
Audities Land, so I may have missed this conversation when news of the
release of this disc first broke. That said,

I watched and thoroughly enjoyed "The Bangles: Return to Bangleonia"
last night. Confirmed fans will just love it and I think even casual
fans will find much to like. Detailed reviews are easily located online.
For Auditeers in particular though, one thing really jumped out at me:
the girls are ALL authentic music geeks who'd fit right in at an
Auditeers convention. You don't have to play Spot The Musical Influences
with The Bangles, they'll happily and joyfully do it *for* you. It's
refreshing in that they don't pretend for even a minute to be anything
more than what they are: 4 girls in a garage band who just wanted to
play their versions of the '60's inspired paisley pop they grew up on
(please pardon my awkward summation). The wondrous vocal harmonies that
catapulted them to fame and fortune were just unexpected icing on the
cake. It was, what's the word, serendipitous? I think so. Be sure to
watch the concert part of the disc with the band comments option turned
on after you've watched it with them off initially. Michael Steele was
always the most intriguing Bangle to me, and her bandmates speak of her
with great insight and love. Much to learn and enjoy with this DVD! No
pretensions, just fun, jangle, harmonies and hooks. In other words, a
FINE way to spend a Friday night at home.

P.S. Amazon is guaranteeing you'll pay the lowest price on the HELP! DVD
set if you pre-order. I.E., if the price drops from $20.00 (plus
shipping) before the Oct. 30 release date, you'll pay that lowered
price. At least, that's the way I understood it on first glance the
other day. Please correct me if I'm wrong or if anyone's already found a
lower price. I can't afford the Deluxe Edition right now, gonna have to
go with the 2-disc set.
