When my wife Kristeen and I met 7 years ago, she owned about 200 cd's and I owned about 800. We've since (at least) doubled our collection. Despite a 30-40% overlap in musical taste, we had surprisingly few duplicates (about 20). There were also an amazing number of instances of us owning cd's by the same artists without dupes (Teenage Fanclub, Liz Phair, PJ Harvey, Looper, Dar Williams & Aimee Mann off the top of my head). She has turned me on to mellower stuff like Air, Luna, Elliott Smith and Wheat, and punky girl music like Sleater-Kinney and The Gossip. She also introduced me to bands I should have already known and liked (Sloan, Pete Yorn, The Delgados) considering my tastes. I converted her to poppier fair like Old 97's, Gene, The Lucksmiths, Magnetic Fields, Papas Fritas, Shack & Saint Etienne. I also introduced her to some bands that somehow flew under her radar that she now likes a lot more than I do (The Muffs, FOW). By the way, we met at a bus stop on the way to a Cinerama & Broadcast show (aww...). One odd thing was neither of us knew either band beforehand. One of her friends had urged her to check out Broadcast and some of my friends had urged me to check out Cinerama. The other odd thing is we both had tickets for a show at the same club two nights later (Pedro The Lion, Death Cab For Cutie). So, yeah, I'm one of the lucky ones.Damianthegeniusiwas@hotmail.com
