As someone who has stood in Cliff and Beth's kitchen and marveled at the sheer volume of stacked CDs in their cupboard, I can attest to how important music is to them (not to mention all the gigs and music equipment they have going on). ;-)
My wife and I will be married 17 years this November, and music was definitely a catalyst in us getting together.
I buy the bulk of the music in the house, but she likes a large percentage of it. She knows and understands my obsessions with The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Who (for starters). She's a fan as well. Also Ben Vaughn (my music hero).
She likes a lot of the "Audities" type stuff she hears, but doesn't always know who is who or why - she just likes some of the stuff. She does, however, know and like when I play Cliff (of course), Michael Carpenter, Myracle Brah, and some others.
She also has some stuff that she really likes that I just don't get (Train, The Fray) - but we always agree on NRBQ (our first dance at our wedding was "I Love Her She Loves Me" - on the strength of that one dance we have turned lots of friends and family onto the Q).
One artist I love that she doesn't like one little bit is Chuck Berry. And I don't think it has anything to him being kind of a nasty dude - she just doesn't like the sound.
In turn, our 12-year-old has no time for Chuck either ;-), however she has borrowed some of my Kinks albums, loves The Beatles, solo McCartney, and is currently going though her own version of Monkeemania. LOL.
All in all, a fairly "harmonious" house.
