where do i have to start (considering the obvious pop inclinations i
share with you all posting to this list). a full album? a compilation
album? one song in particular? or should i better leave it unexplored?
any help appreciated.

I'd suggest you find a Grateful Deadhead friend (everyone has one, or knows someone who has one!), and ask him/her to make you a compilation of their faves, but with a poppy edge. I got such a tape from a college buddy o' mine, and really dug it, but not enough to go out and pick up some Dead music myself. From memory, my fave Dead tunes are probably Shakedown Street, Eyes of The World, and a song with a title like Early Morning Cold Rain & Snow (or something along those lines!). Dig it.

Also, I went to see the Hoodoo Gurus on Tuesday night at The Black Cat in Washington, D.C., and these guys still got it goin' on! I stood right in front of Brad Shepherd's amp, so I didn't have the best location to hear their vocals, but his playing was amazing! I've never seen anyone play lead guitar with such energy. They played most of their hits, including I Want You Back, My Girl, Like Wow-Wipeout, Come Anytime, What's My Scene, Bittersweet, Miss Freelove '69, etc. They also threw in Axegrinder and The Right Time as part of their encore. This is a fantastic band with a very impressive 20+ year past, that is still playing great. They are in Philly tonight, so I hope Cliff & Beth are going, and I really wish I could make their show at Maxwell's (Hoboken, NJ) this Sunday night with The Fleshtones. That is going to be one amazing gig... They're touring Oz later this month with Radio Birdman and The Stems, for a super triple-header.

Be seeing you,
Bill
