Hi Randy,
I don't recall the song offhand, but I want to offer an educated guess here:
if you heard the song performed by a 1972 High School Choir there's a damn
good chance it was from one of the "hipper" musicals of the time, like
Godspell or Jesus Christ Superstar (rememeber, not every song was a hit from
those soundtracks, and most have been lost to 30 years time).
You might want to check out those two soundtracks, and see where it leads
you.
