A quick update from my sister-in-law on the concert at the Minnesota
State Fair:
"yes, we did get to the concert. Suicide Commandos were great.
Fountains of Wayne, not so much. I don't know what was wrong - they
seem to play the sort of stuff I like, but they just weren't clicking
for either of us. Not the worst thing in the world, though, since I
had to work yesterday, so we didn't mind leaving before their set was
finished.
But it was fun to get out to a concert (that wasn't Lyssie and Dan).
We're planning to try to get out to more shows - small local bands and
things like this, too."
So chalk up another for the "FoW aren't a very good live band" camp, I
guess, but I mostly urged her to go because I knew she'd love the
Suicide Commandos, so there you go.
The obscure reference in the second paragraph, incidentally, is to the
really quite good Minneapolis-based alt-country duo the Floorbirds (
http://www.myspace.com/thefloorbirds ), the female half of which is my
wife's sister's husband's niece...which is just removed enough from me
to make this plug not be entirely nepo-tastic.
