True. But I would also argue that much of it is NORTHERN influenced as well, with the Europeans settling in the large industrial areas of the north, such as (intially) the Irish in Boston and NYC, followed by the Poles, Russians, Italians, etc, etc.

Rock is certainly influenced by country and C&W music, and these bare a distinct influence of Irish and Scottish music.

It didn't ALL come from the plantations and the  back woods juke joints, you know. Much of it came from the Bowery and the like.

Modern music is pretty much a hybrid of these two forces, north and south.
