great read, thanks for the link.

about as good a definition of rock'n'roll as i've ever heard.

ps - i see the comments are already splintering past his point to the "you 
can still find great music" arguments, and -  well, duh -  of course you 
can. Key point for me is the change from the almost singular focus to rock 
radio / three TV channels to the wide open (yet ironically internalized) 
landscape of today. The odds on someone/something polarizing a nation's 
listeners at once are long, especially when you'll have to yank the earbuds 
out of 90% of them first. Everyone will have their own "Beatles" but there 
won't be a universal "Beatles". Won't stop the corps from trying to 
manufacture them anyway, though (see American Idol, High School Musical, 
Fergie, etc.)
