Damn. When I visited Yankee Stadium for Old Timer's Day in 1972, I noticed
Phil Rizzuto in a public area. I ran up to him, pen and Syracuse Chiefs
baseball in hand, and asked him for an autograph. "Sure, kid," he replied, but
my pen had run out of ink. Unperturbed, he told me to wait there, and he went
into a private area, and emerged with a fresh pen. He signed my baseball,
and said, "Here ya go." A small gesture on his part, perhaps, but a lot of
sports figures wouldn'ta done it. God save the Scooter.
