Has anybody mentioned their new one yet ("Young Modern")? This is really
a top notch CD. Like Top 10 of 2007 kind of top notch. Very melodic and
well crafted. Van Dyke Parks does string arrangements on several songs.
I was never a fan of theirs early on (Nirvana-lite). But their "Diorama"
was a big departure from their early records and I like it quiet a bit.
This one I believe is even stronger. There are two versions. The deluxe
(which I have) contains a bonus DVD featuring the video for "Straight
Line" plus a documentary of the making of the album.
I'll also give it up for the new Hanson a bit as well. The downside is
that it's a bit long and several of the songs tend to sound similar. But
the upside is that Bleu produced a few (excellent) tracks and when they
hit on all cylinders, they remind me (a lot) of Spymob.
Lastly, I'm currently listening to "In Stereo" by Sweden's Marmalade
Souls on Rainbow Quartz (damn that label has a fine track record). What
a great album! It sounds pretty much exactly what you would expect a
Swedish band on Rainbow Quartz to sound like. Very Beatles/Hollies like.
Their "Fall into the Sky" track sound like it could be right off a
Gripweeds CD. Did anybody catch them at IPO Liverpool?? Mr. Bash's name
is included in the "thanks" liner notes. Anything else to add about this
band David?
