I don't think Elton's point was about the listeners as much as the creators. 
  But even though it's easier to record and get your music out, selling it 
is so much harder.  Which may ultimately make live music that much more 
important.

I also take issue with Reg's claim that there were 10 good albums coming out 
every week during the '70s.
