It just points out, it is important to do regular maintenance on you
collection... I have finite space for lps. Every year or so, I take a
couple of days to get all the stacks on the floor sorted and put on the
shelves. This often means pulling out stuff. Got a couple of boxes of
12" from the 80's! If I upgrade, I toss the old ones, or take 'em to
the thrift. I sorted out "thrift" find and returned plenty that we were
never going to listen to. I have "back stock" in the closet, some are
dups others are marginal items I haven't had time to decide what to do with.
I know a couple of dealer pals who will occasionally take a look through
the spares.
Since we are not planning to move again, ever it's not a big problem.
The wife knows that there are some very rare things in the collection,
so should I drop dead or skip out with some sweet young thing, she ain't
gonna be selling them for a dollar a holler.
When I do open the "going out of business shop" I will probably be
pretty old, and grumpy, and the prices aren't going to be that good, but
you will be able to find some rare items in good shape. No dusty filler
here!
I've probably told you my plan before... a rare record shop and diner...
It'll only be open once or twice a month, and you will have to order a
plate of food... mexican or indian, to get into the back room. You
thought the "two Bills" thing in London was weird....
