Yep...and there's a well circulated demo floating around out there. My
brother-in-law has it. Her Dad gave it to him when they shared a bill at the
Napanee Fair when she was 10 or 11 years old. My brother was in a very big
country act then and was approached by her Dad to possibly produce a record.
The project never materialized. Avril apparently started digging pop music
when she hit high school and the re-birth was underway.
But, you can bet that when Avril stops being a post-teen sensation and
decides to get "serious" about her career and musical choices (i.e. she has
a popularity crisis in mid-career) there will be a country album full of
standards recorded and taughted as a 'returning to her roots'.
Now I'd like to see Alanis do the same and start making dance records again
:-)

Personally, I think "Girlfriend" is too much of a pastiche of OTHER songs to
be credited solely as a creative rip-off of The Rubinoos tune. The lawsuit
would need to include the writers of Toni Basil's "Micki" and Sugar Ray's
"Answer The Phone" for starters....
