Self-indulgence and randomness are, of course, qualities I value highly.
I haven't, because I had to give up hardbacks due to tendinitis. But
I did just read the Dortmunder novella in that Ed McBain-edited
series, so I kind of feel like I have. Is it a good one?
And from you, I need to know if I must own the last John Southworth
album. I'm thinkin' yes.
So since I've missed a million years of topics, I'll just pretend I'm
starting a Current Listening thread, with apologies if you just had
one last week. Although it's a subject worthy of repeating, I think.
Favorite pop album of the year so far is definitely Tim Finn's
"Imaginary Kingdom." I'm just really digging the direction he's
taking the last few years, although I'm not sure it's for everyone. I
went to see him at Largo and he was so great I had to buy the CD the
next morning. That doesn't happen much.
Well, actually, I saw Rhett Miller at the Malibu Inn a few weeks
later and if he'd had any CDs I didn't already own I totally would
have bought them the next morning. Which brings up a question: Why
*was* he playing at the Malibu Inn? Not promoting a CD. Not touring.
Weird. Oh well, it worked out well for me!
Liking but also disappointed in the new Mavis Staples. I suppose
eventually I'll get over the disappointed part and then I'll just
like it. That'll be great.
I really, really like three songs on Crowded House's Time on Earth.
Which is not a very good ratio for me and Crowded House, but would
have been cause for tears of joy were it a Neil Finn album, so I'm
good with three. I expect the next one will be better.
Trying to decide whether my inability to get my ass to a record store
is good reason to buy the new Richard Thompson and Rufus Wainwright
CDs from iTunes. I download CDs from eMusic all the time, but buying
tracks at nearly the cost of a physical CD would be an enormous step
for me.
As you may notice from the seniority of the artists above, I'm way
the hell out of the loop on new music. I need help!
