MM:
What Eytan said is true. As mentioned earlier, if we've been playing
artists like Eytan fairly consistant as say bands like; Tom Petty and The
Heartbreakers, Matchbox 20 or Fountains Of Wayne - why is it that Eytan and
other artists have not seen a penny? It frustrates us as broadcast
programmers that we fill out music logs for these companies like BMI or
ASCAP that clearly list artist and song titles and artists like Eytan have
not been paid. Eytan has been getting airplay from us for over six years
and yet Rob Thomas continues to get his royalty checks. I thought that
internet was supposed to be an even better representation of airplay with
those ID tags, which again many artists I've spoken to who we've been
spinning almost everyday for the last four years have not seen internet
airplay on their royalty statements.

Me:
I wasn't really saying any of this, but what you say is very interesting.
I've heard about this before (that is: musicians complaining that they don't
get there share of radio royalties while big artists are getting all the
money). I think some of the PROs have special programs for small writers to
get some money, though I don't know how they work. (I actually do get money
from BMI, but it's all for film and tv plays. Film companies have to fill
out cue sheets of the music used in their films, and all writers and
publishers seem to be paid equally after that, depending on how the music is
actually used.)
