Tom,

Thanks for the heads up on the soundtrack. The local music stores aren't carrying the album yet but I guess I would have been quite bummed finding out that the version in the film isn't on the CD. I went thru the same emotional response when "Grace Of My Heart" was released without Kristin Vigard's performance that was lip synched by Illeana Douglas in the film's most important moment only to be replaced with the composers version - Elvis Costello and Burt Bacharach. Good song but had to wait for a comp a couple years later that had Kristin's take. She must have been flooded with requests to put it out herself as she re-recorded the song and released it as well.

I caught "Once" at the Maui Film Festival and really enjoyed it and I know that no matter how many people I tell to go see it...they won't. Hopefully it will get a great response on DVD and on cable. Now for those on the list that have seen it, could you tell me if the film was out of focus on a large number of shots? The theater was packed but no matter how many asked for the film to be focused, I'll never know until it comes out if it was the projectionist or the film itself.

I said I enjoyed it earlier and the performances and songs were well done. I disagree that only one song was good but that's always subjective. My only peeve was that film overused the hand held technique that made the film feel like watching "The Blair Witch Project" or an episode of "N.Y.P.D. Blue". Steven Bochco set the stage on the tube in the early nineties and film director Tony Scott uses it for dramatic effect in just about all of his films but after the onslaught of reality shows it appears that every film and television show wants to take the path of constant camera movement like a home video of a birthday party for a child. There's nothing wrong with a static shot. "60 Minutes" still knows that the static shot has an impact. I remember the power of seeing Bob Dylan on "60 Minutes" a few years ago and this was a prime time show that let the camera sit on it's subject even when pausing for an answer. So rare on television.

Way off subject...sorry. Go see "Once". :=)

*Her new album is killer! Original material this time around versus her previous awesome "Coverage" album. If you liked that album you should appreciate this one too. Great set of folks onboard like Chris Holmes, The Weepies, Rachael Yamagata, Lory McKenna, Dan Wilson, Jason Mraz and John Alagia as producer.
