Do I win a prize for submitting the one millionth McCartney post?
It's officially too many, because Paul was in my dream a few nights ago.
No, he wasn't playing mandolin OR ukulele and he wasn't wearing chuck
taylors.
He dropped by unannounced (we're pals, y'know), and he brought a
junior-sized guitar and violin. He explained that he was trying to find
some inspiration from his youth, and these were his first instruments. The
instruments were covered in some strange sort of cloth.
He handed me the violin and told me to listen as he plays a new song he's
working on, and let him know what I think. It sounded like a Rutles-style
early Beatles pastiche and I told him so. He had no reaction. The dream
ended there.
I also dreamt that I had a non-speaking part in a film, and there was a
theme song for my character. It was something by Elliott Smith, but I don't
think it was a real Elliott Smith song. Anyway, the filmmaker was none
other than Jarvis Cocker. After the film was edited, he invited all of the
actors to a classroom to explain some of the edits. He cut my theme music!
He explained that he listened to the lyrics and thought they were stupid.
The frustrating part is I can't remember how these songs went. This is sort
of a return to my youth dream-wise. My curse was dreaming original music
that was great, and waking up unable to remember a single note. I can
always recall well known songs that play in my dreams, but never the
originals. The best musical dream (and therefore worst when waking) was
when I dreamt an entire symphony.
Amateur psychiatrists, start your analysis...
