I would posit that Lennon did many more embarassing and shameful things than
dance around in an iPod advert.

I've got  no problem with the advert. Indeed Dance Tonight is maybe the
weakest track on a pretty good album and hearing it cut down to 30 seconds
is probably the best way to hear it.
