I'm not a big fan of the outdoor festivals - Spoiled
by club shows - But, it sounds like I'll have to tough
it out in the 100 degree weather that is Austin City
Limits Festival if I'm gonna see Crowded House. I do
have tickets to The Police in Dallas at the end of the
month!
Sloan were great at SXSW and (even better) my friend
that I turned onto Sloan has been listening to them
non-stop for the last 3 months now...and he hates
EVERYTHING. The Navy Blue tour I saw at the Metro in
Chicago was still the best...unfortunately SXSW only
allows a 40-50 minute set & with the amp dying, it was
too short overall.
The Shins = Boring live...I love "Chutes Too Narrow"
and the other albums are good, but I keep giving them
another shot to impress me live & it doesn't happen. I
think I'd enjoy an acoustic/unplugged type theater
setting show where I didn't expect them to rock.
Voxtrot - I like their EP's, so I went to the CD
release at Emo's and the show was pretty good as well
- They kind of reminded me in a bad way of another
substance-less Austin band called Sound Team...but
much better. Unfortunately, the new album is totally
flat - They should've either stuck to EP's or reprised
some of the better songs from the EP's on the album.
The EP's sound varied enough, but the album has no
stand-outs and the whole thing just kind of runs
together. At least they're entertaining live.
Still have to see Future Clouds and Radar, but I love
the album - I missed the last show to see the
old-school Austin reunion of Doctor's Mob and The
Wannabes (who reunite so often they might as well
still be a band). The other time FC&R played recently,
they were 1st of four and I decided to hold out for a
"real" set.

Let's see, Austin has The Fall Collection & The Summer
Wardrobe & The Daylight Titans...maybe I'm just a
Vapors geek, but all of these names sound like they
were influenced by Vapors' songs.
The Ugly Beats rock - Now there's a band that know how
to put on a live show - Go See Them!
