It IS funny and it IS obvious. It was a poke at all the inane "girl" songs
from the time period with the lame-assed "moon" and "June" rhyming couplets
that existed (even the great Lennon-McCartney never came up with as clever a
punchline as this one).
My favourite was always Alice Cooper's "School's Out" with the
brilliant....'we can't even think of a word that rhymes.
