my song about Billy Fury (big hit at IPO with a lot of folks) has been
recorded (did it in London with barely enough time to make my flight) and
i'll have it up shortly on MySpace for download - our studio was a minute
away from Joe Meek's Holloway Road studio which we drove by... apparently
the current owners will take you on a tour if you pre-arrange it!!!
Billy Fury was indeed a very tragic figure but the FIRST UK (and
Liverpool) rock act to release an album of all-original material. He is
mostly forgotten in Liverpool but his fans are very loyal and meet twice a
year at his statue and his grave.
He never had a No. 1 but pretty much always hit the Top Ten with every
single.
A lot of covers of US hits but the production and his voice is usually
amazing.
Anyway, a very good introduction to the pre-Beatles UK rock scene
