He still has a home here on Maui and I see him all the time at different musical functions and just doing the "average Joe" mundane things in life that we do on a daily basis. I've actually had the misfortune of seeing four shows where Mick sat in the seat directly in front of me. If anyone reading this knows how tall this musician is then you know that I was tilting from side to side at all four of these shows. *lol

Selling wine is a money maker for a number of artists and the man loves keeping busy at music so kudos to him for keeping the cash flowing. This is especially an interesting subject after the last three week discussion on Audities about musical income.

He actually did some high profile concerts here in Hawaii like "The Crater Festival" which is the monster of all rock shows here. My friend Raiatea was enlisted to be his vocalist (once again he sat directly in front of me when he discovered her talent at a local concert) and she is having the time of her life along with Rick Vito, Lopaka Colon (from Henry Kapono's "Wild Hawaiians") and both of the Barefoot Natives; Eric Gilliom and Willie K. This line-up is a big deal here in Hawaii. How big? The Grammy Awards finally have a category for Hawaiian Music and have been handing out awards for the last two years. Both Raiatea Helm and Willie K. have been nominated each year (the winner for two years in a row was a compilation album - it's the Grammys - go figure - humor aside - my next door neighbor was the guy who was on both of those comp albums and proudly displays those statues).

Are you ready for the name of Mick's band? Are you sitting down? Island Rumours. It's really a cool concept and people are digging it and the crowds have been packed to hear songs all over the musical map like Buddy Holly's "Not Fade Away" and Todd Rundgren's "Bang On The Drum" to wonderful island songs like "Alika" and "O Tahiti". Of course, the show wouldn't complete with some Fleetwood Mac classics.

Changing the subject back to Costco. Does the music section in Costco reflect any local music in your area or is that just something Costco does in Hawaii? It's not a large section...possibly 100 to 200 titles where classic Beatles CDs and the latest from Avril Lavigne share shelf space with tons of island music and deeply discounted prices that beat Borders and the box stores like Walmart. Just wondering.

Now Playing: Low Stars - just got the album last night and don't know the titles of the songs yet as it blasts from the stereo in the background. It's really cool. It reminds me of songs from acts that I'd hear on mid-seventies AM radio. The harmonies, arrangements and songwriting are quite strong.

P.S. Thank you to the many Auditiers who sent email messages and listened in yesterday afternoon when Alice Peacock performed live on my radio show. She appreciated all of the feedback. She put on an amazing and intimate performance while she switched back forth from piano to guitar. We are rebroadcasting it online for those who missed it every three hours for the next two weeks at:
