Not in the USA, tho Canada & some others have a levy.
Here's a Wikipedia article on the subject.

That's partially incorrect. We *do* pay a royalty on CD-R's marked
"Audio CD-R's" or "Music CD-R's" (Sony's designation, for one example).
If the audio or music designations aren't on there, we don't pay the
royalty (like on "normal" computer/data CD-R's). That's why CD-R's
marked specifically "audio" or "music" cost more and it's also why
stores like Best Buy tend to promote mainly "audio" and "music" CD-R's:
More money for the RIAA. This information is in the last paragraph or
the article in the link provided by Michael. See also The Audio Home
Recording Act and The Serial Copyright Management System. OR, type
"audio cd-r" +royalties into a search engine.

Now, Michael, can you tell me what THIS (below) means and please take
care of it for me? Domain literals? The right hand side of an address? I
don't understand. What should my request have looked like? Here's the
information from the "Audities handbook" on how to
subscribe/unsubscribe, followed by the auto-answer I got. (Thanks in
advance, Jeff T.)
