The Philly-area fellas (and other regions/locales!) on this list have
done a fine job explaining to the previously uninitiated just what the
whole IKE sponsorship thing is about. I'd only ad this: Folks, there's
an entire *book's* worth of extra story here, and I've suggested to John
(Faye, of IKE) that one day he write it. IKE have already recorded a
previous CD *and* made and produced a really nice video/DVD package for
the single "Deathbed" using this exact method, so what they're trying
now is hardly new for them and it will probably work just as well AGAIN
this time. I know all the folks in IKE (version 2.0 and the original
line-up) and it's a privilege to be able to call some of them my
friends. Even so, when I first heard of this method of financing an
album, even I was sorta stunned and didn't know quite what to think. I'd
certainly never heard of a band doing things that way before, that's for
sure. But whaddayaknow, it really does work for them. Their fans are SO
devoted and all they want (I believe) is for John Faye to keep writing
songs "for them". I'm not a fan of this last album though, I think it's
their weakest. I know that's heresy to a fine bunch of folks who I've
met through the band and like very much. Just my two cents, gang, plenty
of good stuff on "In Real Life", just not as strong top to bottom in my
humble opinion. I'm still a big supporter of all that they do. Also,
it's not completely true, as mentioned in an earlier post, that nobody
in IKE has an outside job. They do, though they're all related to the
music biz in one way or another, and they are "mostly" part-time. A
couple of them now play in other bands as well. Somewhere on the web
someone has probably already told at least part of this "IKE and their
fans" story far better than I ever could. If you're interested, take a
search and see what turns up.

Jaimie's comment about wanting artistic input for fifty bucks is
meaningless in this particular context.
