As I am the "fan" who posted the original item regarding IKE, I can confirm what Shem stated. That email was sent only to members of their mailing list (of which I am a member). As such, it was a direct appeal to those who have already expressed a strong interest in the band.
And to be honest, I am bit perplexed why some people object so strongly to this approach or feel that giving the band the $50 entitles you to more than what the band simply stated this money was to be used for; i.e., to help defray the costs of recording. It's all voluntary. If you don't agree with this approach, don't give them the money. If you think $50 entitles you to more "control" over IKE's creative process, don't give them the money.
