Jamie's reply to Kerry:

"No one dedicates a life to art without SOME compensation. You need money
to
make art and hopefully money will come back when you can sell the art.

But, back to the topic at hand. This ain't art. This is pop music. There's
a
big difference."

Jaimie I agree with you that most pop music ain't art (although some
undoubtedly is). Do you then think people who dedicate their lives to
making pop music should automatically expect to be compensated for their
efforts? I'd say only to the extent that they can attract a fanbase
willing to pay market price for the fruits of their labours. Essentially,
all we are haggling over is the fair market price.

You also commented on "the person who said they didn't care about working
musicians" - I think I subsequently demonstrated that:

a. I do care passionately about music I enjoy
b. If I am friendly with the people making (or distributing) music I Iike,
then I WILL care about their individual well-being - absolutely!
c. Heck, if I know the musician well, I might even care about their
well-being, even if I DON'T enjoy their music all that much :-)

However, please don't ask me to care about musicians I DON'T KNOW making
music I DON'T ENJOY. Cos that would be plain dumb.
