Interesting you should mention this. Two years ago the band I was in fired
its guitarist after we found out the guy didn't know the names of any of our
songs.....he just kept referring to them as "Track 3 from the album", "Track
7 from the album", or "Track 11 from the album".

The singer/songwriter told him "Consider this the BONUS TRACK....you're
fired."

That's just soooo sad....and symptomatic of the disregard music has as a
force now. Buy, consume, discard.

I'll buy three or four CDs of artists with new product out (or re-issues
I've gotten) each month and still listen to them the way I did as a
kid....as a complete unit with the artwork, lyrics splayed out in front of
me as I take in the whole experience. After all, that's the way the artist
intended it.

I'm old school. Give me an album. If the album bites, give me good singles.
If there's only one single, then I'll take the track and sell off the
disc....but that's rare cause I won't buy an album unless I'm sure there's
more than a good share of great tracks (unless it's an artist I buy blindly
on faith -- McCartney, Cheap Trick, Fastball, et al).
