The artists that the majority of us like on this lists don't tend to
sell an inordinate number of albums and buying a CD is simply an
investment in the development of the next one. I certainly download
the occassional MP3 to see if i'd like an album and equally I get sent
MP3s from people saying "You've just GOT to hear this". All of this
leads to my buying a great deal more CDs than I would otherwise.

You are probably right, Matt. If some people I know shift 500 - 1000 CDs
then they are happy with that. But I wonder if they had their CD on
eMusic, would the number of downloads exceed this considerably (I know it
is asking a lot to make up the 10/1 difference in money to the artist
under the eMusic model). Or is it enough for them, that their music is
available to many more people who would never be able to buy the CD
(because if your pressing runs to 500 or 1,000, you are unlikely to
distribute them far and wide - if you have any distribution deals at all).
I've seen you mention David Doll before - what is his aim in CD sales
and does he intend to have a presence on eMusic?
