<<I'm not personally responsible to any of you in the music business
anymore than any of you are personally responsible to me. >>
That's true, Jeff...and the point I and Jaimie have been trying to make is
that many musicians and labels will walk, because it just isn't worth it
anymore. As you eloquently stated at length, you have the right to place whatever
value you want on how important music is to you. The providers of the music
have that same right. That's all that's being said.
The idea that merely stating that point of view is perceived as "whining"
kind of underscores the perceived mentality that some of us are objecting to,
which is consumer = all, music providers = shit, so if a music provider states
what their experience is, well, they must be all bitter and "woe is me" (in
my own case, I've repeatedly said that I'm not bitter about anything, and
careerwise I'm rolling with the punches, so b.s. to that, alright? It is
possible to offer a personal perspective without being bitter about it. I know
it's a tough concept to handle that you can tell it like it is without having a
big axe to grind, but I have faith most Auditeers are smart enough to make
the distinction).
All that's being pointed out is that the attitudes and trends that are
happening are moving towards outcomes that probably none of us want. It may well
be that that's inevitable; on a macro level, that may just be the trend in
economics all the way 'round. Everyone's got to make their own set of choices
and live with 'em.
Jamie -- you were a legal secretary too? Neat!
