Shrunken Heads is indeed a terrific album!

*Shrunken Heads* is outstanding. While I don't think Hunter's ever put
out an album that embarrassed him in terms of quality, the two that he's
put out this decade show him at a real peak in terms of his songwriting
skills.

We've discussed at length over the past week how the quality of recorded
output seems to go down over time for artists who've been in it for the
long haul, especially for those who had strong creative bursts in their
youth, and how hard it is to keep up momentum over the course of
decades. Well, while that may be true of most rockers on the Ben Gay
side of fifty (McCartney, Costello, the Stones, Townshend, Brian Wilson,
etc.), it's certainly not true of Ian Hunter.

He's playing the House of Blues here in Chicago on June 7, with the
crackerjack backing band he's had with him for *Rant* and *Shrunken
Heads* mostly intact. They're magnificent live. I can't wait!
