I give "Tears In Heaven" a pass only because it wasn't insipid UNTIL it got
over played and its theme overstated every time a DJ announced. Clapton was
mourning...and it was the rest of the world that over-reacted to it. The
treacle was almost a by-product....though, the re-release as a totally
acoustic piece from VH1's "Unplugged" just added to the total oversaturation
of the track.

Same with Elton's "Candle In The Wind". The original production of the song
was true Elton ballad brilliance. Changing the words and making it an anthem
for International Pity-The-Princess Day killed the song's original
bittersweet resonance.
