If you mean revisit a corner, I can understand - the assumption is that you 
already experienced it once and have no need to repeat an experience you are 
familiar with.

If you mean investigate, I find fault in your argument. Why would music made 
at another time be not viable just because it's older? If you never heard it 
before (or not much of it, or didn't pay attention) it's "new to you". 
That's the difference between the standard oldies format that beats 
"Satisfaction" and "Light My Fire" to death and something like Little 
Steven's Underground Garage, who unearths some less-than-common songs along 
with some classics (and blends them with the new - which to me is how it 
should be!). I've been on a serious scavenger hunt and enjoying so much I 
didn't know enough about at the time, be it Jook or Count Five deep cuts.

That's what speaks to "who I am as a listener now" - and who I was as a 
listener then - insatiable appetite for great bands and songs. Time doesn't 
play into the equation.
