I just figured that Morrison, like so many others at the time, was just
really, really high. Better to create some obtuse persona than to do
something truly harmful.
The Doors were one of a few that juxtaposed being a great singles band with
being a great album band - straddling AM and FM when the split came. I still
love MORRISON HOTEL and L A WOMAN as much as I did then. There were quite a
few lunatics treading the boards back then, but since I mostly just wallowed
in their recorded output I put less stock in the wack job elements.
