  Hi Steve,

I actually have two different sets of songs: 1) Songs that bubble up and pop into my mind; 2) songs that bubble up into my mind and I sing them.

Three songs that bubble up into my mind often, but I don't sing them are:

"Here I Go Again" by Whitesnake
  "Hey Jude" by the Beatles
"The Minutes Are Keeping Time" by Eddie "Snookie" House

Then the songs that I actually sing, I think have more to do with my voice, and what I can sing well. I'm from Arkansas, and there's three singers that I like that are all from just outside Arkansas' borders (one from Memphis, TN; one from Gilmer, TX; and one from East Tupelo, MS) that I can do decent imitations of:

  Alex Chilton
  Don Henley
  Elvis Pressley

So my shower songs are usually:

  "Just Because" Elvis Pressley
  "All Shook Up" Elvis Pressley
  "Neon Rainbow" the Box Tops
"I Shall Be Released" the Box Tops
  "Blue Moon" Big Star
"Heart of the Matter" Don Henley
  "The Long Run" the Eagles
"After the Thrill Is Gone" the Eagles

those are the main ones, but there are others. And like I say, I think a big part of the reason that I sing them is that they fit my vocal range well, because there are other songs, like the three above in my first group, that will pop up in my mind, but I don't bother to sing them, because I think I know subconciously even, that I can't really pull them off well.

  Peace,

  W.D.

OK, this may not turn into much of a thread but what the hell.

You know I, like you, sometimes sing a song that pops into my head.
It's usally at home when I'm "feeling it" (I use that term very
losely). Anyway, I've "sung" thousands of songs over the years in
the shower and such but I've noticed that I really have two songs I
sing more then any others. I'm mean songs that I've known for a long
time but for some dam reason these same two songs seem to pop into my
head a lot more then any others. They have staying power for some
reason. I like both songs but they are not my fav songs or even fav
song by either artist. It's just curious and sort of odd to me. I'm
sure there is a reason these songs keep coming up in my memory more
then others and I have some guesses as to "why" but I'll spare you
that much.

Anyway, the songs are...
Elvis Costello's "5 Gears In Reverse" and of all things....
Elvis Presley's "No room to rhumba in a sports car".

(A runner up to these would have to be "Take a letter Maria".)

Do any of you notice a tendency to have certain songs bubble up from
your memory a lot more then others over the years. If so, what are
they and are they favs or are they not?

Steve D
