I'm surprised that more Auditeers don't like the new Macca single. I think it's right up there with the catchiest, most melodic single A-sides of the solo Cute Beatle. It's a bit similar to "My Brave Face," but I like that song, too. The chorus of the new song is about as infectious as it gets, in my opinion.
I wouldn't be surprised if some or all of the tracks on the new album come from the sessions for what I think it McCartney's worst album, the David Kahane-produced Driving Rain. I read a bunch of interviews with the band that said there were more melodic, Beatlesque tracks that they recorded or started working on, but Macca went in a completely different direction for the finished album.
Or all of this stuff is new. I dunno, but I really like the new song.
