The very fact that McCartney can put out a single and raise such hubbub here is telling; I don't, for example, remember such a furor around the last Ray Davies solo record.
I'm a sucker for the guy, always have been, although I was way less than keen on Chaos and Creation. But as to criticizing the merit of McCartney's work, I must again fall back on, this is a list where the ARCHIES are considered a serious and viable artist.
I love Sgt. Pepper, but I'll tell you what, I can't separate my reaction to the music from the time and place in my life where I first heard it (and I'm too young to have been there when it came out, but still it was impactful when I did get to it.) I think that, with the exception of the Doors, who really just totally suck, all musical taste is subjective.
