Well, a notch below the greatest. But yes, a killer track that still
makes
me turn up the volume wherever and whenever.

If "Bad Time" isn't the greatest American Top 40 pop single of the
rock'n'roll era, it's certainly within shouting distance of the summit.
That song is an immaculate presentation of everything power pop should
be -- and yet it seems to be largely ignored among power pop aficionados
because ... well, probably because it's Grand F'n Funk.

Not for me. Good song but not even in the top 100. But to your initial
point, yes, Grand Funk can be the shit! I recently picked up the two
live
albums on CD. Still love the description of Mels bass as
"bong-rattling"!

"Greatest cover to EVER have graced the American Top 40"? I dunno. I'll
have to think about that. There might be a better candidate out there
that's not coming to mind at the moment. But I do love the Grand Funk
version of "The Loco-Motion" -- great footstomping rhythm section,
enthusiastic Mark Farner vocals, and a hilarious Tufnelesque guitar solo
by Farner that sounds like he's unclogging his sink with the neck of his
guitar.

"The wild, shirtless lyrics of Mark Farner! The bong-rattling bass of
Mel Schachter! The competent drumming of Don Brewer!"

One of thee best Homer Simpson speeches. Ever.
