I'm as cash-strapped as most of you, but I've ponied up money on occasion to
invest/support a new album because I knew the artists in question would (1)
eventually issue an album and (2) weren't raking in the dough despite their
talent. So I looked at it as my very tiny altruistic payback for someone who
has clearly hit the mark before and needs some financial support in this
upside-down record market we're in.(A financially established artist - or
one who brags that they are - doesn't fit that bill, obviously). A track at
a time, or pick-a-track? Not really interested, but more power to those who
are and to the artists who can make money doing it
Like Jeff a key component for me is the tangible product. Yes, I know the
world is changing and that iPods and digital files are the medium of the
moment. I DON'T CARE. I am not satisfied...but that's my cross to bear and I
get that. I still believe in albums, in concepts, in snapshots of where
bands are at the time. Cue dinosaur music.
Would I ever pay $2 for a track? At that per pound rate, unless you are a
handful of people, not without hearing part of it.
