I will have the honour of working with some members of Focal Point during my
trip to Liverpool for IPO in May. For those not familiar, Focal Point were a
post-British Invasion-era band from Liverpool who, through a chance meeting
with Paul McCartney in Hyde Park, London (while McCartney was walking his
dog) managed to bend the Beatle's ear. He sent them to Decca Records
(ironically) where they cut some sides for Decca's DERAM label. Apple
Publishing grabbed their songs on the recommendation of Lennon...but by the
time they got the chance to make a full album -- following tours with Cream,
Vanilla Fudge, Hendrix and others, Apple was in financial trouble and Focal
Point became a footnote in the Beatles story.
The guys are still together and playing Beatlefest in Liverpool in August.
Leader Paul Tennant has written a book called "All You Need Is Luck" about
their experience, briefly, in the limelight. Another Canadian associate of
mine (and former hit song writer) Peter Foldy has optioned the film rights
and principal photography begins during the Liverpool festivities in August.
I believe one or two of the gents will be coming to see what the fuss is
about that weekend of IPO. I hope to do some recording at Paul Tennant's
studio in London before heading back home.
Meanwhile, the "Bite Of The Apple" CD is available on Spanish label KISSING
SPELL.
