I found out about this place when I was looking for cabinets for my 'fixer'
project. They used to be located in Oakland, kitty corner to their competitor
Superior Hardware. They recently moved to San Leandro with a larger showroom.
If you've ever shopped for cabinets, I'm sure you've checked out Home Depot,
Lowes, and Home Expo. If you like your cabinets to be made of composite wood,
then shop there and pay $8K for 10x10 setup. If you prefer real wood and want
the cabinets in a week instead of a month, shop here. You won't pay $8K here
for that sample setup; expect to pay at most, $2300 for a modern cherry shaker
design...with dove tail jointed drawers. Now, there are a lot of Chinese-owned
kitchen/hardware supply stores in the Bay Area. I've been to a lot of them.
All seem to have the same ready-to-deliver cabinets, but I thought KWW was a
notch above the rest with their styles and quality. They also have sinks,
tiles, flooring, vanities, dining tables, shower/sink fixtures, and shower
doors...all at prices way below any of the big BOX stores. Eg. clear glass 5'
wide sliding shower door for tub at Home Depot ~ $249...KWW ~$149. Laminate
flooring at Home Depot ~$2.5/sf...KWW ~$0.69/sf. Granted, most of the stuff is
made in China, but who's going to be looking at where's it Made In...once it's
installed? If you're looking for classic oak, maple, cherry designed cabinets,
this is the place. If you're looking more for European glossy, modern style,
you'll have to go somewhere else. Be warned, Sonia, the owner, is usually the
only one that can approve the kitchen design. If you pick the wrong day, you
can be waiting in a long line. Avoid Monday or Friday mornings.
