 You know this is pretty interesting comment. I will have to agree with you.
I can listen to the new stuff and enjoy it very much, but it is only when 
I put on those early albums, up to about Moondance that I am grabbed "head,
heart and soul".

 And other than Painted From Memory and the work with Allen Toussaint,
the same holds true for Elvis as well. Neil Young also.
