Well, the reviewer obviously doesn't like the band to begin with (and didn't write the Pitchform review of Welcome Interstate Managers, which was a rave), so I don't give the review much credence. But, while it seems churlish to profess disappointment with an album I do enjoy, the fact is that it is a letdown; it's definitely their weakest to my ears.

Oh, there's plenty of catchy tunes and clever wordplay, but while WIM was a real step forward in breadth and depth, T&W feels very much like a retrenching. The pastiche of pop influences seems more calculated, the tales of suburban angst less organic; I knew what every song would sound like when I read the titles and I bet you will too.

And there's nothing that touches"Hackensack," either.

That said, will it end up in my Top 10 list 9 months from now? Well, probably Top 25, at least. :-) Can't wait for everyone to get it and hear your thoughts.

I've been a FOW fan from day one. All I can say is if you like and "get"
their previous releases...Traffic & Weather is no different. It's definitely
not "indie"...there's no artistic pretense, indie posturing, or
introspective
lo-fi. It's all well-produced, wonderfully arranged pop music set to lyrics
about
everyday life...that you can draw metaphors to...or simply take at their own
fun
face value.

If Pitchfork doesn't get it, oh well. Opinions are like a-holes...everyone
has one. Test drive for yourself.
