Actually, it was a poem by Thomas Dekker. Even with it in the public domain,
I'm not sure how McCartney got away with writing it without at least
including Dekker's name in the credits as lyricist as the first four lines
of the poem are identical except the word "wantons".

Golden Slumbers Kiss Your Eyes

Golden slumbers kiss your eyes,
Smiles awake you when you rise ;
Sleep, pretty wantons, do not cry,
And I will sing a lullaby,
Rock them, rock them, lullaby.
Care is heavy, therefore sleep you,
You are care, and care must keep you ;
Sleep, pretty wantons, do not cry,
And I will sing a lullaby,
Rock them, rock them, lullaby.

Thomas Dekker

Jaimie Vernon,
Bullseye
