<< Oh, and Dylan owes part of his career to Conway Twitty. Gary Gold
is better
at connecting the dots, but suffice it to say that Alabama-born Ronnie
Hawkins, and NOT Dylan, played the biggest role in the Americana music
movement (thanks to a push from Twitty). >>
wellllllll,
I'm afraid even MY legendary dots
would be hard-stretched to smoothly make this particular connection,
Jaimie.
While it may indeed have been Conway Twitty who first suggested Ronnie
Hawkins head north to O Canada,
it was none other than PRESLEY who first inspired Conway to start
rocking,
and that Ronnie/Dylan via Hawks/Band hook-up
I'd have to credit even more to legendary Hamilton (!!!) Ontario
promoter "Colonel" Harold Kudlats,
if push ever came to shove.
So let's just all agree then,
in the immortal words of J. Lennon,
that "Before Elvis, there was NOTHING."
Excellent overview on Ezrin/Richardson, Floyd/Guess Who however,
my friend.
I don't think I've ever heard this all stated so clearly and
succinctly, Jaimie.
PS:
and to hoist the Six Degrees of Merseybeat even further out there,
I am most shocked (and stunned) indeed to hear Joan Baez, I kid you not,
warbling none other than Gerry Marsden's "I'm The One"
in but one stunning backseat sequence from D.A. Pennebaker's grand new
"Dylan 65 Revisited" film,
Gary "which is Required Viewing, need I say" Pig
