The Crickets were obviously the Beatles' (et al!) template,
musically, visually even,
plus they..... Wrote and arranged their own songs

(and recorded them
in a studio-as-experimental-playground atmosphere
thanks to their very own Gerorge Martin:  Norman Petty).
