> Elvis was definitely an influence on the Beatles, McCartney has made
no secret about his feelings toward Elvis: "I luv 'im." His version
of "Just Because" was great. Lennon talked about Double Fantasy as a
return to his roots-- "I was doing Elvis and Orbison." Although it is
hard to point to a collection of Beatles songs and call them "Elvis-
influenced."
Even though they may have loved Elvis, and perhaps been inspired by
his success to pick up guitars and sing, my main point was that I
don't hear the Elvis influence in The Beatles music.
> From radio interviews when they were Beatles they considered Buddy
Holly their *big* influence.
Good point Michael - Buddy Holly's influence on The Beatles music
(melodies, arrangements, etc.) is much more overt than any Elvis
influence.
> Lennon wore his Elvis influence on his sleeve when he lifted a line
from "Baby Let's Play House" and used it in "Run For Your Life." ("I'd
rather see you dead little girl than to be with another man.")
Good point - it sure would have been interesting to hear Elvis
sing "Run For Your Life"!
Be seeing you,
Bill
