mmm. He's still a rock star. I'm guessing he still loves the crowd's
adulation more than almost anything. The reaction he gets to the few Jam
songs he does is incredible....and judging by the couple of gigs I saw in
late 2005 it isn't like he's doing a Jam Greatest Hits set or Best of The
Style Council (now that would be a short night!). He throws in about a half
a dozen songs, including an absolutely barnstorming version of "In The
Crowd" which The Jam would never have managed.
Even if he is back-tracking on past statements, at least he has the right to
do it. What are Buckler and Foxton going to do? 14 different versions of
Smithers-Jones and News of The World. It'll be like a Flock of Seagulls gig
without the entertaining hair.
