Actually, James Brown copied David Bowie. Brown's song came out after Bowie's
and in several interviews with James Brown's bandmembers' they had stated
Brown was jealous of Bowie coming out with a 'James Brown-type' groove and asked
the band to get as close to Bowie's song as possible so he could put his own
lyrics on it. He was copying himself a lot at that time, putting out remakes of
his own songs and adding the year to them, like Payback '76 and the like.
