First off, i went a little nuts...my inner (hell, my
OUTER) bitch kind of went off because I just don't get
this artist and she is being shoved down my throat. I
realize, of course, that she is a performer and she
can affect whatever accent she wants. I also realize
that her personal life and background shouldn't have
any bearing on whether or not I enjoy her art. I
apologize for reducing her. Hell, I LOVE the Strokes,
and it would be hard to find a band from a more posh
US background, yet they try to appear all dirty and
downtown. Kind of like that Phantom Planet record
where they are all sitting on some Brooklyn-looking
stoop. Give me a break! They should have been posing
on the Sunset Strip surrounded by super models.
Anyway...
The ONLY issue I have with any of this is Stewart's
quote that she is a "talented singer" I am quite sure
she is not a talented singer, by any stretch of those
word. I'm not talking about being on key or having
perfect pitch either...Tom Waits is a talented singer.
Kim Deal is a talented singer. Kelly Clarkson is a
talented singer.
Lily Allen lucked into a crew of men who could write
and produce hooks for her.
