  Hi Michael,

I loved KISS as a youngster too. But now that I'm nearly 40, I view them as a competent band that had a great gimmick and stage show. Later after the first makeup faze, I view them as a competent band that had the sense to co-write songs with Desmond Child, Jim Vallance, and others. Now in the second makeup faze, they seem to be the ultimate sellout/marketers ever.

I work for a Fortune 500 company (in a smaller capacity; I'm not one of the key decision makers or anything), and the current KISS reminds me of a F-500 Co. in that they're all about profit maximization of the brand name. In a way I guess who's not about profit maximization; but still, there seems to be classier ways and less classier ways to go about it. And KISS seems as though they may have crossed the classy line somewhat.

  Peace,

  W.D.

p.s. But then, this is from me, a person whose definition of class is drinking Michelob Ultra rather than Old Milwaukee ;-)

Some might argue they were never "musicians", but.... I haven't listend
to a KISS album in years. I was a card carrying member of the KISS army,
just havent thought to pull the music out, but this thread might just
move me.
As for the commercial aspect, I happened to catch a few minutes
of The Simmons Family Reality show FAMILY JEWELS. Gene is an egoist
to the max, but the best part of the show was when he took the cameras
into this huge room that Gene claimed contained one of every item they
ever licensed the Kiss name or Images too. It was pretty amazing. Of
course it turned into a commercial for everything KISS but it was still
interesting to see how money can make you put your face on anything including
condoms, topilet paper and a toilet seat.
Some might say that says alot about their music, but......
